5 Tips Not To Look Like An Oblivious Gate-Crasher In A Fancy Restaurant

Fancy restaurants may not be favorable to everyone. Some would say they prefer delightful and satisfactory food that can be bought at low cost in other places — where anyone wouldn’t be too bothered on their attires, etiquette, or formality. Some would even purposely avoid extravagant restaurants because they feel intimidated and out of place.

But what about for some very important occasions or invitations from other important people who only eat in five-star rated restaurants or hotels and one’s presence is very much expected, especially when it’s work-related, wedding, or a birthday celebration?

Here are some tips not to look like an oblivious gate-crasher in a glamorous restaurant filled with elegant people.

1. Learn the table manners and restaurant etiquette ahead of time. From the right use of table napkin, fork, proper way of eating, and even the appropriate giving of tips on the waiter — one must know these since these are the basic factors to be considered in fine dining .

2. Dress-up and look good. Who doesn’t like to look good, right? But make sure the level of attire that shall be worn fits in the restaurant. Reading reviews from blogs and being observant to people who have visited there on their facebook or instagram photos can actually help. Advance preparation is helpful in taking away the anxiety and it’s also an assurance that there will be no embarrassment that the cloth design worn is not the same as their table’s cloth. Smart enough? Yes. But it would be smarter if it will be partnered with confidence.

3. Order something that wouldn’t be messy. For first timers, finding a food will make it easy for anyone not to feel too anxious on the actions. Eating small bites would also help for it not to be sloppy. Getting to know their menu through blogs and their websites can also be helpful to refrain oneself from being too dependent on imitating others’ orders that would just eventually give disappointment because they’ve got different taste and the food seems weird. Anyhow, asking the waiter about their menu, their best-selling dishes or recommendations wouldn’t hurt that much.

4. Enjoy the meal and put down the camera. Feeling rushed must be avoided — It’s a fine dining, not a marathon, nor a food pictorial that every angle needs to be taken — and for the love of food, avoid using flash or sounds for it might annoy other diners.

5. Talk. Of course, the number one purpose of that dinner is to talk, to reunite, or discuss something. So being too much focused on the meal and neglecting other people around the table make the whole dinner a waste of time. Avoid getting too engrossed on the mouthwatering food and eating fast and try sharing good ideas with your company. But of course, if you’re alone — go and focus on the foodz. Lol
