When we travel, we indulge ourselves into the culture of our destination. It is actually the beauty of travelling, we do not only see the stunning places or tourist spots, but rather, we get to experience how it is to be living in that place even just for a few days or even for a day.
However, when we visit new places, we are most likely about to ditch our eating and exercise habits that we do regularly to keep our body on shape. In terms of exercise, we do not need to worry because we can do exercise anytime and whenever. Simple walking is an exercise. Doing some adventures that that place offers is an exercise. So the actual concern herethat some travellers are worried about is the irresistible food and the challenge of keeping themselves slim and healthy.
But there’s actually nothing to worry about. Here are 7 tips to stay slim while travelling:
1. Know your destination. Research about your destination a few days before you travel. Search for grocery stores near your hotel where you could buy healthy food and some supplements. Also search for restaurants that offer healthy meals. Check their menu in advance and see what their healthy or fat burning options are. By doing this, you can save time, avoid restaurants with many temptations that may ruin your proper diet, and prepare enough budget for your meals and overall expenses.
2. Take healthy food with you. Pack some food that you can bring with you that does not need to be refrigerated and can easily be eaten, especially for snacks like nuts, fresh or dried fruits, and protein powder.
3. Keep yourself hydrated. Always drink a lot of water especially when you do a lot of walking or adventures. We often mistake hunger from thirst that we tend to eat even when we are not actually hungry. This actually happens when our body is in need of water and our body receives mixed signals. Dehydration makes us think that we need to eat food instead of drinking water.
4. Eat real food. Eat dairy, pasta or bread in minimal quantities. If it ispossible, just avoid them. Eat vegetables, fruits, nuts and some form of protein. This is why it is also advisable for you to be familiar of the healthy and bad foods. Through this, you will not have a hard time determining which is which.
5. Watch your sugar. Choose those drinks with low or no added sugar like vodka, wine and liquor with no mixers and natural fruit juice.Drinks like margaritas, iced tea and other flavored juice have a lot of sugar. For the food, avoid those with sugar-based glazes like barbecue, teriyaki and etc.
6. Do not skip any meal. Travelling or not, it is important not to skip a meal so that you can make sure you have enough energy for the whole day that you can enjoy. Skipping a meal only makes us hungrier that leads us to eat a heavy meal once we eat. And in every meal, try to eat lightly with a lot of water.
7. Eat like a local with modesty. Do not forget to try their local foods; it is one of the essential factors of travelling. Just do not overeat especially if the ingredients are those on your block list. Eat lightly and do not rush. Nonetheless, if you think your meal was bad or an unhealthy meal, then make sure your next meal is healthy. Avoid eating bad meals in a row.
Vacation is meant to be enjoyed. Just make sure you are in moderation because depriving yourself is really no fun in a vacation. Anyone can always have some amazing adventures, eat local food, go to parties and drink, live at the moment while travelling and still stay fit and healthy. You just need discipline and knowledge. Be knowledgeable about the place and the foods that you are eating or are about to eat. Be disciplined in controlling yourself from doing or eating too much that you know is not going to be good for you and for your health.Nevertheless, at the end of the day, what matters most is your happiness.
